Really Amazing Hydroelectric Power Station
monovolume, the firm of architects Patrik Pedó and Juri Pobitzer recently put up a really beautiful hydroelectric power station in Winnebach, Italy. In regards to the project, the architects state:
“The station is conceived as an artificial rock quarried out of the slope. This sensation is underlined by a very reduced use of materials (concrete, glass and steel) in their rougher form, as well as by the “veins” which cross the volume. These “veins” consist of light bands of layered glass and run around the building. At some specific points of those light bands a normal single glass delivers insight to the power station’s bowels.”

Great new refrigerator by Samsung
The Bi-axis fridge is the product of Eindhoven based GRO design and Samsung. GRO’s inspiration came from the the increasingly blurred division between cooking and living areas in modern homes. With its retro face, this modern concept fridge can be transformed from the traditional vertical position to a horizontal ’sideboard’, making it look like another piece of furniture rather than a large appliance. The free-standing fridge does away with the typical coils and features a smooth flat surface while all the interior surfaces have grooves that allow the shelves to be re-oriented according to the fridges position.

Sofa-Dress by MAEZM Studio
Korean design Studio MAEZM has created the Sofa-Dress.
From the designers:
’sofa-dress’ is a job of space design and a suggestion of furniture design. The act of putting on the clothes of the “sofa” on the existing chair in itself makes the previous object become a little more cushiony furniture and it also can achieve an intention as a unified space with the same cuticles. The ‘sofa-dress’ projects the past objects through the rays of space, which makes a new present without removing the past completely. The black and transparent cuticles reveal the past objects in secret. Its material is the special blowing-type urethane foam and plays a role in screening the rays and simultaneously getting rid of a feeling of weight. Simply beyond the cuticles covering the chair, ’sofa-dress’ holds an intention of a new-styled design experiment with its own form and mass.

‘House On The Water’ by formodesign
‘House On The Water’ is a newly proposed building by Polish architects Jedrzej Lewandowski and Lukasz Skirzynski of formodesign. The design of the house is inspired by the architecture of yachts. Really beautiful building.

The Citadel is a newly designed floating apartment complex by architectural firm waterstudio NL. From the looks of it its yet off the drawing board, but waterstudio NL has created a website dedicated to the project where you can subscribe to the email list for more information. Better brush up on your Nederlands prior to visiting the site as there’s still no other language options.

Kavellaris Urban Design – Perforated House
Really playful architecture by Kavellaris Urban Design. The house is being dubbed the Perforated House and combines interior, architectural, and graphic elements in a really fun and interesting way. Click on the image to head on over to their website. Its definitely worth a viewing.

Reiulf Ramstad Architects
A new building right outside of Romsdalen, Norway just went up. It was commissioned by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and placed along their National Tourist Route that extends throughout Norway.
