Volcano Choir, a side project of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, recently released their new LP Unmap.  For an album that admittedly was mostly experimentation, Vernon and company seemed to pull it all off pretty well in the end.  “Island, IS” is definitely a stand out track, yet ironically the track’s video is rather simplistic and straight forward in a sharp contrast to the diverse and far reaching sound of Unmap.

Its a pretty good list of songs included tracks from Santigold, Of Montreal, and Passion Pit to name a few. Jump on over to their site and click through for the download link. No related posts.]]> New electro pop goodness filled rockers, Passion Pit, spent this summer at the top of my iPod playlist. I think I dedicated a week in June solely listening to “Sleepyhead” on repeat, and it hit at least a hundred plays on my iTunes. God, they are awesome.

You may recall the simple flash Tone Matrix by Andre Mitchell a few posts back.  While the Tone Matrix was appreciated for being simple, easy to use, and straight forward, Audiotool takes that same tone matrix and places it in a much more complicated but powerful flash-based online electro music studio environment.  While Audiotool has a much steeper learning curve than the the simple tone matrix alone, it’s well worth it for all of the extra abilities.  Tone Matrix is just one default setting, along with Electro, DrumNBass, and of course the ability to create your own.

My favorite recent release has go to be jj n°2 by mysterious Swedish electro-pop group jj.  I say mysterious because to the best of my knowledge they have never publicly acknowledged who they are.  Mystery identity aside, their new LP is pretty engaging as well.  The highlight has got to be “Ecstasy” which samples Lil Wayne’s smash hit Lollipop, but instead of making not so subtle sexual inuendoes as Wayne did, jj uses Ecstasy to make it pretty clear what drug they prefer when they’re in the club.  To each their own vice I guess.  “From Africa to Malaga” is also worth a listen as well.

Imogen Heap released her new music video online and its available in exchange for tweeting a shameless promotion of the video to all of your friends on twitter.  Interesting viral marketing.  “Canvas,” from her new album Elipse which is due out August 25th, sounds a bit darker than the Heap I’m used to from Speak For Yourself, and the video matches that mood as well.

Last year, former Miracle Legion frontman Mark Mulcahy’s wife passed away suddenly. This coming fall, a bunch of artists (including The National and Dinosaur Jr.) cover some Miracle Legion classics as a tribute to her. Heartbreaking story, and the music fits the mood.

You can check Thom Yorke’s cover of “All For the Best” streaming over at stereogum. Thom Yorke is a genius. Anything the guy touches seems to turn to gold.

Everyone’s favorite band to feature a tap dancing as an instrument put their spin on the ABC’s for Sesame Street.  Having recently witnessed Jamie tap her ass off recently while many months pregnant gives me some new appreciation for Tilly’s unique style.
